Transurban: Charting Experiments for Cities of the Future
Thomas Schroepfer and Christian Werthmann

Transurban is an interdisciplinary design research project started at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2006 that charts ideas, ideals, and processes of recent and current built experiments for cities of the future. The idea of sustainable cities is examined in more than its environmental and ecological aspects to highlight emergent forms of architecture, landscape architecture, and urbanism based on new paradigms that inform the shape of cities to come. The projects discussed embody complexities of design, dwelling, community in space, building technologies, and environmental strategies, as well as models of affordability, but at the same time explore new trajectories in the development of sustainable cities in the 21st century.
