Stephen Roth, for the past twenty-five years, has been involved in a wide variety of real estate investment and finance worldwide. In the 1980’s, Mr. Roth worked for Salomon Brothers, now Citigroup, and from 1985-1990 was a Senior Vice President at Drexel Burnham Lambert. In 1990, along with four other former employees of Drexel Burnham Lambert, he started Secured Capital Corp, a real estate investment banking firm based in Los Angeles. In the early 1990’s, SCC was the largest advisor to the Resolution Trust Corporation for the sale of subperforming and nonperforming loans on commercial and residential properties. By the mid-1990’s, SCC along with institutional partners, acquired close to $1 billion of nonperforming and subperforming loans secured by real estate. Mr. Roth retains the title of Chairman Emeritus of Secured Capital Corp (U.S.) and is a Member of its Advisory Committee. In 1997, Mr. Roth, along with the principals of SCC, started Secured Capital Japan and Secured Transinvest Asset Management (STAM Europe) to acquire real estate and nonperforming loans in Japan and Europe. These two firms today are highly successful, with assets under management of close to $2 billion in Japan and $1.2 billion in Europe. In 2004, Secured Capital Japan was taken public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Also in late 2004, Mr. Roth formed a real estate investment and asset management company to invest institutional capital in China. The companies, China Real Estate and Kailong REI Project Investment Consultancy, Ltd. Shanghai, intend to have initially 5 strategic institutional shareholders/ investors. The asset management company in Shanghai is fully licensed to conduct business in China and currently has 6 employees. Mr. Roth formerly served as Chairman of the Board.
