Michiel Olland (48) is Director Southern Europe and New Markets for SNS Property Finance International (formerly Bouwfonds Property Finance) since February 2006. He has commercial responsibility for Southern Europe and New Markets. SNS Property Finance is part of the SNS Reaal, a Dutch quoted Banking- and Insurance group. SNS Property Finance International is focusing on Development finance in the Benelux, France, Spain, Germany, the Nordics and Northern America.
Before SNS Property Finance, Michiel Olland was Chief Financial Officer of KFN. At KFN, Michiel was responsible for Corporate Finance, Treasury, Accounting & reporting, Tax and Legal Affairs, Taxation management and the financial administration.
Olland joined ABP in May 2001 as Executive Vice President for the Real Estate Investments in Europe and Asia/Pacific. He headed a team of 12 Real Estate professionals, together responsible for the management of 4 Real Estate Funds on behalf of ABP. The Global Real Estate portfolio amounted € 16 billion in 2004, with roughly 50% of that invested in Europe and 8% of that in Asia/Pacific. The remaining € 7 billion was managed by the New York office of ABP Investments.
The portfolio contained both investments in public Real Estate Companies in Europe (Western-Europe) and Asia/Pacific (Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Japan) as well as the Real Estate private equity activities and participations in private funds and companies, primarily in Europe.
The strategic target of ABP for Real Estate allocation was 10% of total assets (2004: € 160 billion).
Before joining ABP, Michiel Olland worked for ING Group for 10 years, most formerly as General Manager of the Structured Real Estate Finance department (“Corporate Relationship Management” or “CRM”) within Westland/Utrecht, a Dutch Mortgage Bank and a 100% subsidiary of ING. He headed a team of 16 specialized Real Estate bankers. He was also General Manager of subsidiary Westland/Utrecht Leasing, market leader in Off Balance Sheet financing (“operational leasing”) of Corporate Real Estate. Olland has been a member of the Credit Committee of Westland/ Utrecht and has also been responsible for the Shipping and Aircraft Finance portfolios. The total credit portfolio of the activities under responsibility of Olland amounted roughly Euro 2 billion.
Before working for ING Group, Michiel Olland worked for 4 years as an M&A Consultant at Banque de Suez and established a M&A department in this Dutch branch of Banque Indosuez, in close cooperation with Financière Indosuez in Paris.
Michiel Olland has been a founding member and Chairman of the Management Board of INREV, the European association for Investors in Non-listed Real Estate Vehicles, from its launch in May 2003 until May 2007. Currently Olland is an executive board member of INREV.
Michiel Olland studied Law (MLL) at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, is married and has 4 daughters.
