Michael P. Spies

Michael Spies is Senior Managing Director of Tishman Speyer, overseeing its European activities, and chairs the company’s global Investment Committee. Based in London, he is responsible for ongoing investments and operations the firm has in seven European countries. Tishman Speyer is a leading global real estate company managing over $50 bio. of assets. Prior to moving to London, Mr. Spies was in Berlin from 1990 to 1994 heading the firm’s operations in Germany. To date the firm has developed or acquired over 12 million square feet of properties in Europe exceeding $11 bio. in value. Before joining Tishman Speyer in 1989, Mr. Spies was Executive Vice President of the New York City Public Development Corporation, the primary economic development agent of the City of New York. At PDC he was responsible for commercial and waterfront development activities, as well as spearheading the City’s corporate retention efforts. Mr. Spies graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1979, and from Harvard’s Kennedy School in 1982 with a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning. He is a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and The American School in London. He and his wife Claudia have two sons.
